Are You That Somebody? 3 Takes On An Aaliyah Classic

Aaliyah's sound was so cool and laid-back.

I've noticed that artists like Drake and Chris Brown incorporated her voice over their music because her voice goes so well over basically anything. I believe she would still be dominating the charts if she were still alive today.

I was searching for covers of the late artist's music recently, and came across three completely different versions of her song, "Are You That Somebody?" They each have their own feel and musical focus. This song is so versatile-- it's great. Check out my Top 3 below.

Take 1: Saint Timbre

I'll keep things short and to the point. This remix is INSANE. This appears to be Saint Tiimbre most popular song on Spotify, with just under 2,000 views (even though I think she deserves more). Out of my top 3, this is the only one that includes a rap during the bridge of the song. Does the rapper's sound resemble Outkast, or is it just me?

Take 2: Banks

As you can tell from the amount of YouTube views this video has, Bank's version is popular. This version come up several times while searching, so I made sure to included it! Her vocals are accompanied by a really talented guitarist, and the pairing seems so natural. They perform a stripped down version of the song.a

Take 3: Handmade Moment

If you enjoy folk-acoustic music, you just might love this version by Handmade Moment. It features male harmonies that are refreshing, because they show another side to the song. This version revealed to me how broad Aaliyah's audience was during her career, and the variety of artists that are influenced by her music.

Which one was your favorite?
